Doha Oasis to Get Theme Park and Roller Coaster

One of the tallest roller coasters in the Middle East will have its home in Doha, within the under-construction ‘Doha Oasis’ which is situated adjacent to another important project - the Downtown Msheireb Project Phase III.

“Doha Oasis is one of the biggest landmarks coming up in the heart of Doha. This project demonstrates the continuing development of Qatar's property market, which is geared towards delivering the National 2030 Vision. This started in December 2015 and endeavors to be ready in the end of 2018. Seven million safety man-hours award has been earned for the high safety quality of the project,” said an official seeking not to be attributed.

The Doha Oasis program is intended to deliver an extraordinary high-end mixed-use development in the heart of Musheireb district of Doha. The program comprises 5 Mill. Sq.Ft. (460,000m2) of built-up area on the 785,000 Sq.Ft. (73,000m2) site. The distinctive elliptical shape of the building comprises exclusive high-end residences in 7 blocks over 9 floors including Duplex Penthouses with 245 high end apartment units. The retail component, the Doha Oasis Boutique, comprises 3 (three) levels of the podium with 2 (two) floors having uninterrupted views of the Themed Experience Centre. The boutique also hosts an exclusive complex of cutting edge and VIP cinemas. A 29 floor tower houses the ultra-luxury 7-star hotel, LA CIGALE MUSHEIREB with 7 (seven) restaurants and a business center.

The “Jewel in the Crown” is the development of the 300,000 Sq.Ft. (27,500m2) Themed Experience Center (TEC) in the heart of the development. Unique to the development is the 2 (two) glass towers rising from the landscaped courtyard that houses 2 (two) of the major rides. The Theme Park occupies the Central Area of the Podium at the ground level and is covered by a steel dome ensuring a clear height of 18 meters, supporting the landscape garden, and is penetrated by skylights. The Theme Park expands into the peripheral areas of the Ground Floor level to accommodate a total of 26 or more different rides and attractions. Mixed use project combining a group of Residential units, a 28 floors Hotel Tower, a Shopping Mall and an Amusement Park A Primary Sub-Station is to be constructed on the project site.

“The sky with an operable glass roof providing shading and protection from the weather conditions. Two technical floors are located on top of the mezzanine level and between the 28th floor and the sky view restaurant,” said the main contractor of Redco Construction-Al Mana.

Among major engineering challenges is a water table just 10 ft. (3 m) below the surface. Options were studied for constructing the 75 ft. (25 m) deep basement, proposing the installation of wells. The basement was then constructed as a watertight concrete box with pile walls. Once complete, the pumps were switched off, allowing the water table to rise again. The structure’s mass, plus tension piles, prevents the basement from floating. Above ground, the tower features 10 In. (250 mm) thick post-tensioned concrete floor slabs to minimise structural depth and accelerate construction. Chunks taken out of the tower’s sides create a series of 4-storey sky atria, assisting the building’s natural ventilation strategy.
